AMAZON SUPPORTS MAKING VIETNAM AN E-COMMERCE EXPORT HUB FOR SOUTHEAST ASIA
E-commerce in Vietnam is experiencing a phase of robust development, with the participation of many major global technology corporations, including Amazon.
The presence of world-leading technology groups like Amazon is not only bringing export opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises but also driving the digital transformation and development of the country’s knowledge-based economy.
During a meeting with Ms. Susan Pointer, Amazon’s Vice President of Global Public Policy, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long stated that Vietnam always values cooperation with the world’s leading technology corporations.
To achieve double-digit growth targets in the coming period, Vietnam has identified science, technology, and innovation as key development drivers.
In that spirit, the Deputy Prime Minister requested Amazon to continue partnering with Vietnam on its development path, proposing that Amazon expand cooperation with Vietnamese technology enterprises to enhance production and product development within Amazon’s ecosystem in Vietnam.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the Vietnamese Government is ready to create favorable conditions for Amazon to cooperate and invest effectively in Vietnam over the long term, contributing to the development of Vietnam’s e-commerce market and science and technology ecosystem.
For Amazon’s part, Ms. Susan Pointer highly appreciated Vietnam’s socioeconomic development results in 2025, particularly in administrative reform and digital transformation.
Amazon’s leadership affirmed that the group has had many activities supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in Vietnam with exporting globally.
Over the past 12 months, the number of products from Vietnamese businesses sold on Amazon globally has increased by 35%. To date, thousands of Vietnamese businesses are exporting and developing their global business through Amazon.
The group affirmed it will engage in long-term cooperation with Vietnam; support elevating ‘Made in Vietnam’ products; and support making Vietnam an e-commerce export hub in Southeast Asia.
The group also stated that recently, Amazon Global Selling Vietnam and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade – Ministry of Industry and Trade) signed a strategic cooperation agreement to implement the ‘Vietnamese Brands Going Global’ program with two goals: providing comprehensive training and online export certification for 1,000 Vietnamese businesses; and supporting national brands in strengthening their international presence through e-commerce with Amazon.
Another noteworthy point is that Amazon wishes to increase the localization rate in its electronic component supply chain and encourages Vietnamese enterprises to participate more deeply in the group’s global value chain.
Amazon also proposed expanding cooperation in training high-quality human resources in the fields of digital technology, data, and artificial intelligence, considering this a key factor for Vietnam’s sustainable development in the digital era.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long expressed thanks for Amazon’s insights and commitments and highly appreciated Amazon’s strong development in recent times.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that Vietnam is perfecting its legal framework in the fields of science and technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and high technology. The government will support businesses in developing technological capacity through flexible, transparent mechanisms that encourage creativity and cooperation, contributing to enhancing competitiveness in the digital economy.
